Ikat woven scarf from Ecuador in beautiful indigo natural dye.  Ikat is a tie-and-dye resist process of a highly intricate process.  It is a weaving technique practiced around the world, but this one comes from the town of Gualaceo, in Ecuador. It is here that the few remaining artisans are dedicated to weaving ikat.  First the the warp threads are created, then the pattern is sketched in pencil, and finally the complicated wrapping of the threads which creates the resistence to the dye.  Only after the dye process is finished, is the scarf woven on a back strap loom.
